Drawing and sketching helps me share my thoughts and views of what I experience and connect to. I look for beauty everywhere within everything; landscapes, living things and objects around me. Places and things I know; sometimes simple, sometimes more complex, it is my storytelling. I believe light, value, composition and line are important in telling that story. I want the viewer to stop, study, see what I see. I work in black & white, using graphite, charcoal, and pastel mediums. I work mostly in my studio from my photos and sketches; but I enjoy the outdoors and will occasionally work on location. I live and work in the central Ohio area with my artist husband, Kevin and a jack russell terror named Rockwell. Additional work can be seen at:https://pertainbucklandart.com

Fleeting 1 This art was created from photos I took of monarchs feeding on milkweed along the water's edge at East Harbor State Park. It was a beautiful September afternoon; warm and golden. The monarchs were everywhere and no sooner then they landed they launched again. I was pleasantly surprised when I downloaded the photos and found I had good shots to work with. The paper was brushed with Japanese ink, left to dry and then black & white pastel was used for the drawing with a few highlights of orange. Fleeting 1 won an award at the Fall OPAL member show.
